Frequently Asked Questions
As you browse through these pages, you may have a lot of questions
about our practice. We’ve answered some of our most commonly
asked questions below. If you don’t see your questions answered
here, call us at 858-487-4888 for more information.
What are veneers?
A veneer is a thin leaf of porcelain that is placed over your teeth
to improve the size, shape, or color of your smile. Veneers are becoming
more popular because they mimic the appearance of your natural teeth
and are very effective at enhancing the appearance of your smile.
Dr. Salamy or Dr. Snyder may recommend veneers if your teeth
are resistant to whitening. They may also suggest veneers if you
want to straighten your teeth or close a space between your
teeth.
This type of cosmetic dentistry begins with a consultation with
Dr. Salamy or Dr. Snyder. You will have the opportunity to discuss
your goals of treatment. Photos and models may also be taken
to begin your treatment plan. You can schedule your first appointment
by calling 858-487-4888.
Do you accept referrals?
Absolutely. We always welcome new patients to our office. We feel
there’s no greater compliment to our practice than to have
our patients recommend us to their friends and family.
Do you accept my insurance plan?
We know that deciphering your insurance benefits can be confusing,
so we are happy to help you with insurance concerns.
We feel, however, that your insurance should never dictate the quality
or timing of your treatment. If you have extensive or long term dental
care, we offer assistance through CareCredit, an outside financing
company with competitive interest rates. If you have any questions,
call us at 858-487-4888.
What is a NTI-tss device?
Nearly 44 million Americans clench and grind their teeth while they
sleep. If you’re part of this statistic and suffer from migraines,
neck pain, or other disorders, you may want to talk to Dr. Salamy
or Dr. Snyder about being fitted for an NTI-tss. This device is a
small mouthpiece that fits over the front teeth and keeps the
back molars from touching.
You may not realize it, but clenching and grinding can cause a lot
of problems. When you unconsciously clench or grind your teeth, the
muscles responsible for the clenching become sore or tender.
This soreness may lead to migraines and other headaches. By keeping
your teeth apart, the NTI-tss relieves this muscle tension
and also protects the enamel on your teeth from being worn away.
If you suffer from migraines and nothing seems to help, call 858-487-4888
to schedule an appointment with Dr. Salamy or Dr. Snyder. They can
determine if you have a grinding or clenching problem and whether
a NTI-tss device is right for you.
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are quickly becoming one of the best ways to replace
missing teeth. A dental implant is a titanium screw that is used
as an artificial substitute for tooth roots to anchor a single crown,
bridge, or denture in your mouth.
Unlike removable dentures, implants feel and act like natural teeth.
They also maintain the gum tissue and structure of your face, unlike
traditional dentures. Best of all, you can smile knowing that you’re
implants are permanent.
Implants have an extremely high success rate and no matter what
age you are, you can be a good candidate for dental implants. If
you want to know more about dental implants, contact our practice
by calling 858-487-4888.
Patient Education
After reading through our site, you may have a number of questions.
Are dental implants better than dentures? Should I have my amalgam
fillings replaced? In order to give you more information, Dr. Salamy
and Dr. Snyder have selected the following patient education articles.
We think they’re easy for everyone to read and will explain
why we recommend the treatments we do. If you have other questions,
feel free to call us at 858-487-4888.
Brushing Right Can
Save Your Life - Although most people are aware of the
reasons behind proper, daily tooth brushing, few people realize that
clean teeth and healthy gums can protect against a wide variety of
other general, even life-threatening, health problems!
Crowns -
If you’re self-conscious about your smile due to cracked,
broken, decayed, or worn teeth, we can bring back your healthy,
natural-looking smile with dental crowns.
Dental Sealants -
Many people have deep pits and grooves in their teeth or do
not brush properly, which previously meant cavity trouble at
each dental visit. Dental sealants now offer a means of successfully
protecting molar and premolar chewing surfaces from decay.
Fixed Bridges -
If you’ve lost teeth due to accident, injury, or gum
disease, we can create a permanent 'bridge' appliance to replace
the missing teeth.
Implants -
Permanent, Secure Tooth Replacements - When
people lose permanent teeth due to accident, injury, disease
or extraction, dental implants can be a secure, functional
replacement option.
Invisalign:
Braces for the 21st Century - FDA approved
Invisalign is the “invisible” way to straighten
your teeth without wearing conventional metal braces.
NTI - How Dentistry
Can Help Your Headaches - If you’re
one of the 40 million Americans who suffer from migraine
headaches, it’s possible that you may find some relief
from your pain in the dental chair.
Porcelain Veneers -
Porcelain veneers can often provide people who have chipped,
stained, discolored, unevenly spaced, or even slightly crooked
front teeth with a completely new-looking smile in just a few
simple appointments.
